Acne and rosacea are two of the most common skin conditions, affecting millions of people in the United States. These conditions can be divided into multiple types and have different causes and triggers. However they are both associated with inflammatory processes in the skin, and their appearance can often occur simultaneously.

The first step in treatment for rosacea and acne is finding triggers and learning how to avoid them. Pharmacologic treatment then involves the use of topical medication, with systemic medications reserved for particularly stubborn cases. Topical treatment is preferable because of a decreased risk of adverse effects and drug interactions. The topical treatments that are commercially available most often involve the use of a single therapeutic ingredient. A compounding pharmacy can combine multiple effective ingredients into one cream, making an acne and rosacea treatment regimen easier to use and more effective.

Our compounded acne-rosacea cream contains niacinamide, azelaic acid, and retinoic acid. All of these ingredients have been proven to effectively treat inflammatory skin conditions.

Azelaic Acid has multiple mechanisms of action including tyrosinase inhibition and inhibition of other processes that lead to rosacea and acne. It has been shown to be significantly better at reducing rosacea symptoms than metronidazole.

Niacinamide (B3) is an essential vitamin that helps improve barrier function in the skin.

Retinoic Acid provides epidermal keratinization, which means it helps improve cell turnover to allow new, healthy skin cells to grow.

These ingredients work together to reduce inflammatory lesions, erythema, pustules, telangiectasia, and more. Barrier function is improved and hyperpigmentation is reduced. Combined with control of exposure to triggers and consistently protecting the skin from UV rays, this combination acne and rosacea cream can help many patients get clearer skin.
