0.3% and 0.5% nasal spray or nasal irrigation
80mg/5mL solution for atomization or nasal irrigation

Gentamicin belongs to the class of antibiotics known as aminoglycosides. They have a broad spectrum of action, but are more frequently used for fighting infections of gram-negative bacteria and staphylococcus colonies in the sinus cavity. Gentamicin administered intranasally is an effective way to eradicate bacteria in the sinus cavities and to topically treat sinusitis.

Gentamicin Combinations

BEG nasal spray contains Bactroban (mupirocin), EDTA, and gentamicin in one solution. This has long been a first-line treatment for sinusitis resulting from exposure to toxic mold. This combination with three effective ingredients is not available commercially. However, there also is no manufactured gentamicin nasal spray. A compounding pharmacy is able to provide these products in a nasal spray, atomized solution, or nasal irrigation.

Nasal Spray

A nasal spray bottle contains a solution with the medication already mixed. The nasal spray bottle provides a metered-dose spray with each actuation.

Atomization

The atomization method uses an battery-powered device to pump in liquid medication to the sinus area. The compact electronic atomizer releases the liquid medication into a fine mist that gets inhaled into the sinus and nasal cavity regions. This is the most popularly prescribed method for administering compounded sinus medications from our pharmacy.

Nasal Irrigation

Nasal irrigation involves the use of a medicated saline solution to flush out the nasal passages and sinuses. This is accomplished by the use of a nasal spray bottle that contains the mixed medication and saline solution.
